Das Vienna Vikings Franchise gab heute die Verpflichtungen von Wide Receiver Johannes Schütz, Linebacker Daniel Schönet und Linebacker Enzo Mensah bekannt.
Rechtzeitig vorm Kracherspiel in der European League of Football wurden die Players Licences geklärt, somit steht einem Einsatz der drei Neo-Vikings am Sonntag beim ‚Battle For Austria‚ gegen die Raiders in Wien nichts mehr im Wege. Kickoff in der Generali Arena ist um 15 Uhr. Tickets sind im Vorverkauf bei Ticketmaster sowie an der Tageskassa erhältlich.

„The European League of Football has proved to be a step up in competition, and it has always been the goal of the Vikings to build a roster from top to bottom with the best talent from Austria and Europe,“ kommentiert Chris Calaycay, Head Coach der Wiener Franchise, die neuesten Signings in der Bundeshauptstadt. Mit dem Italiener Enzo Mensah (194cm, 112 kg) konnte man einen NFL International Combine Invitee signed, der 2021 bei den Seamen Milano spielte. „I am ready to fight with the team to bring home the best results we can get. I am sure that I will give my best to help the team and at the same time improve myself as a player,“ berichtet Mensah kurz nach Vertragsunterzeichnung in Hinblick auf seine Erwartungen.
Schütz und Schönet, beide spielten bisher in der Austrian Football League bei den Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants, sind bereits ins Training in Wien eingestiegen und fiebern ihrer neuen Aufgabe in der European League of Football entgegen.
„Joining a Team midseason is always a challenge, but the whole Vienna Vikings Franchise made the transition as pleasant as possible. I can’t wait to play for the best team in Europe and be even more dominant the second half of the season,“ so der 21jährige Receiver Johannes Schütz (181cm, 88 kg).
Glücklich, nun Teil der Franchise in Wien zu sein, zeigt sich auch Linebacker Daniel Schönet (184cm, 100 kg). Der 33jährige Grazer freut isch besonders auf die Competition und das Niveau in der ELF: „The ELF is a really competitive League and that’s exactly what i was looking for. I actually can not wait to be on the field with my new team and to go all out on Sunday.“
Dass die Signings, vor allem aufgrund der angespannten Personal-Situation durch Verletzungen im Kader, notwendig waren, erklärte auch Coach Calaycay bei der heutigen Pressekonferenz. Durch den Ausfall von Dominic Siegel (DE) und die Erkrankung von Sebastian Huber (LB) war auf der Position der Linebacker Dringlichkeit gefragt. „With this rise in competition level has come some unfortunate injuries that have caused us to replace those players. Luckily, we were able to sign three incredible talents from Austria and Vienna. All three athletes have the qualities as players and teammates to have an instant impact in the European League of Football,“ so Calaycay, der am Sonntag mit seiner Mannschaft den nächsten Sieg in der European League of Football anpeilt. Die Vienna Vikings sind in Week 8 der ELF das einzig ungeschlagene Team in der europäischen Profiliga.
