Mit Jamarcus Henderson gibt das Vienna Vikings Franchise – nach QB Helbig und DB7RB Edwards – seinen dritten US-Importspieler für die Saison 2023 bekannt. Der explosive Pass Rusher soll in der nächsten Saison für zahlreiche Big Plays und Akzente sorgen.
Der 26jährige US-Amerikaner spielte zuletzt bei den Kotka Eagles in der starken finnischen Liga. Ein wenig European League of Football Luft konnte er bereist 2021 als Teil des Team USA beim All-Star Game der Liga in Berlin schnuppern, was dem Absolventen des Newberry College viel Freude bereitet hat. Die Championship-Season der Vikings hat Henderson aufmerksam verfolgt, sich kaum ein Spiel entgehen lassen: “I’ve been highly interested in signing with Vienna since Coach Calaycay contacted me earlier this year. Since then, I watched and studied almost every game they played in the European League of Football. Also, the atmosphere and the fan base took me by surprise and seeing the support that the team had intrigued me.“
Nun ist die Tinte am Vertrag trocken und der 181cm große, 113kg schwere Athlet kann’s kaum erwarten zur Tat zu schreiten. Dabei steckt er sich sehr hohe Ziele: „My expectations for 2023 is to win the championship again but go undefeated. I look forward to building chemistry with my teammates and supporting my team anyway I can.”
Henderson wird, wie auch die weiteren Importspieler der Wiener, voraussichtlich Mitte April nach Wien kommen.
Vienna Vikings Head Coach Chris Calaycay freut sich über die Neuverpflichtung, kann mit dem Signing von Henderson einen weiteren, wichtigen Puzzleteil zur einer dominanten Verteidigung hinzufügen. „Last season we only played a handful of games with two imports on defense and we can‘t wait to see what we are going to look like up-front with the addition of Henderson. Jamarcus fits the mold of what all are looking for in an American playmaker. I think that his versatility, motor, and explosiveness will give offenses problems and will take the focus off other pass rushers that we possess,“ so Calaycay.
